These are the people protecting our nation’s promise that every generation can do better than the one before.

• The police officers who, despite a 20 percent cut to police budgets, continue to protect our communities from crime.
• The teachers trying to continue giving students the best education possible, despite the cuts to school budgets.
• The parents campaigning to protect their local Sure Start centres — under threat due to Government cuts.
• Most of all, the hard work of everyone in England who continue to give their best in these tough times.
