Pensions fit for heroes
New Government plans will mean a year-on-year reduction in pensions and benefits for service personnel, including those serving in Afghanistan today, and war widows, who give so much to support their loved ones while they serve their country.
The impact will be enormous and will disproportionately hit the forces community, who rely on pensions at an earlier age than the rest of the public sector. This has been met with shock and anger by communities and families up and down the country.
We want the Government to think again and explore whether a temporary reduction could be fairer, and how war widows and those most seriously injured in combat can be protected. The Government is ignoring the unique nature of military service.
